He spent over 30 years as a member of the board, serving as president during the 1932-1933 term. Mr. Cole also served on a variety of committees throughout his time on the board, and provided a link from the founding of the library to nearly the middle of the 20th century.
Charles was born in 1852 to Aart Cale and Henrietta de Booy. Cole spent his entire life in Pella, marrying Dortha Henrietta Kruger, or Etta, on 14 June 1883. Cole owned a variety of businesses in Pella, including the Plow and Pease and a flour store.
